Yandy Díaz confidently predicted that the Rays would finish the ALCS in Game 6 after collecting three hits in Tampa Bay’s 3–1 victory over Cleveland on October 18. The win gave the Rays a 3–2 series lead as they prepared to return home. “It all ends tomorrow. We’re going to win tomorrow,” Díaz said through an interpreter. Díaz led off Game 5 with a double and scored the opening run on Jonny DeLuca’s bases-loaded walk. He added an opposite-field single in the second to help set up Jonathan Aranda’s RBI hit. Following his two-run homer in Game 4, Díaz has five hits over the past two games. The 35-year-old designated hitter is the only player on Tampa Bay’s active roster who was also on its 2020 World Series roster. His 33 postseason appearances for the Rays are a franchise record. Manager Kevin Cash credited Díaz’s work at the top of the lineup with energizing the team. Díaz hit .293 with a .359 on-base percentage, .446 slugging percentage, 22 homers and 85 RBIs in a career-high 154 regular-season games. He said his current focus is simply getting on base as often as possible. Freddy Peralta is scheduled to start Game 6 on October 19 at 8 p.m. Eastern Time, or October 20 at 9 a.m. in Japan. Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt expressed confidence in his team’s ability to respond under pressure. Díaz’s prediction remains a statement of belief, with the series still undecided.
