Anthony Edwards has joined Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan as the only three players in NBA history to score at least 40 points in multiple season-opening games.

The Minnesota Timberwolves superstar delivered 45 points, 10 rebounds and three assists in a 131-106 victory over the Miami Heat on October 21.

Edwards shot 16-for-29 from the field and 9-for-17 from three-point range, producing an outstanding performance in just over 33 minutes. Remarkably, he made more three-pointers by himself than the entire Heat team, which finished 8-for-33 from beyond the arc.

The 25-year-old also scored 41 points in Minnesota's 2025-26 season opener against Portland, giving him back-to-back opening-night performances with at least 40 points.

Before Edwards, only two NBA legends had accomplished multiple 40-point season openers. Wilt Chamberlain achieved the feat four consecutive times from 1959 to 1962, while Michael Jordan did so in 1986, 1989 and 1995.

Edwards reacted with excitement upon learning about the historic achievement, while Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch praised his ability to embrace major moments and deliver under pressure.

Coming off a career-best 28.8 points per game last season, Edwards has opened the 2026-27 campaign by adding another remarkable milestone to his growing résumé.
