Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards is expected to undergo an arthroscopic procedure to address an ongoing issue with his right knee, potentially sidelining him for several weeks, according to a report from The Associated Press.

A person familiar with the situation confirmed the plan on condition of anonymity, as the Timberwolves had not yet publicly announced the procedure.

Edwards had been listed on Minnesota's injury reports with a right knee issue, although the exact nature of the problem remained unclear. He was initially listed as questionable for the team's October 28 game against the Golden State Warriors before the decision to proceed with the procedure was reportedly made.

The 25-year-old guard had made an outstanding start to the 2026-27 season, averaging 33.3 points per game while leading Minnesota to a 3-1 record through its first four contests.

Edwards scored 45 points in the season-opening victory over the Miami Heat and followed with a 47-point performance against the Cleveland Cavaliers on October 26.

While no official recovery timetable has been announced, reports suggest his absence could extend to approximately two months.

If Edwards misses two months, he could remain sidelined until around Minnesota's Christmas matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder, potentially missing approximately 25 games.

Such an absence could also prevent him from reaching the NBA's 65-game eligibility threshold for major end-of-season honors, including the MVP award and All-NBA selections.

Edwards appeared in just 61 games last season, largely because of knee-related issues.

With Minnesota aiming to compete for a championship, losing its leading scorer so early in the season would represent a significant setback. The team has yet to provide an official announcement regarding the procedure or his expected return.
